B.S. in Physics at UC Santa Cruz
M.A. in Physics at UT Austin
My name is Kevin P. Rodriguez, and I hold a B.S. in Physics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and an M.A. in Physics from the University of Texas at Austin, where I also pursued additional PhD studies in phenomenological particle physics.
As a high school teacher at private and charter schools in the greater Berkeley area, I have taught physics, chemistry, and mathematics at levels from the introductory and conceptual to Honors and AP (see full list below). I have also helped students prepare for the math sections of the SAT and ACT exams.
In addition to high school courses, I also enjoy tutoring at the college level. During my time as a PhD student at UT Austin, I was the Teaching Assistant for a variety of undergraduate courses including introductory courses such as Physics for Engineers and Scientists (i.e., calculus based), Physics for Premedical Students and the Life Sciences (i.e., algebra based), as well as advanced upper-division courses such as Analytical Mechanics, Classical Electrodynamics and Optics, Quantum Mechanics, and Statistical Mechanics.
There is no subject that I offer tutoring services for which I do not genuinely love teaching. I was lucky enough as an undergraduate student to have benefitted from the guidance of an incredibly passionate, energetic, and inspiring group of physics mentors and teachers. It is my goal to instill in my own students that same spark of wonder-- I do believe that curiosity can be contagious (in a good way!)
I especially enjoy working with students who have not historically considered themselves to be "math people" or "science people". I myself believed I was bound strictly to the humanities and arts until my second year of college, when I switched my major abruptly from psychology and music to astrophysics, despite never having taken physics or calculus in high school myself. (Yes, my introductory astronomy professor was THAT inspiring.) Looking back, it's clear to me that this was made possible by finding a mentor who believed in my potential enough to make me believe in myself. That potential exists in every student, and it is my ultimate goal as a teacher to nurture it as best I can.
I can teach Math, Physics, and Chemistry, so it's like having 3 tutors in one! (All courses listed below include Honors variations.)

"Working with Kevin has shown how effective online tutoring can be when done right. My daughter finished with a 98% in her physics course." - A.N. (parent)
"Thank you Mr. Rodriguez–– You are very good at teaching and I enjoy learning physics from you. You always try to make learning fun, like with labs, and it works!" - C.A. (former physics student)
"Dear Mr. Rodriguez-- Thank you for being a great chemistry teacher. I had a lot of fun in your class and can't wait to have you as a teacher next year." - L.R. (former chemistry student)
"Dear Mr. Rodriguez, Thank you for everything you do as a teacher. It is clear you care about your students and your passion for teaching does not go unnoticed." - S.S. (former physics student)
"Mr. Rodriguez, Thank you for your patience and for being one of the most understanding teachers I've had." - S.M. (former chemistry student)
"Thank you for being a great teacher last term! I loved learning about atoms and how to better understand all the things around us. I had so much fun doing all the labs and I hope to have you as a teacher again before I graduate!" - E.R. (former chemistry student)
